About Seahorse Silks

How Seahorse Silks Began

Apart from the family box brownie when I was a kid, my first real introduction to photography was part of a Graphic Design course at Perth Technical College in 1969 and 1970. Of course back then it was film and dark rooms. The impatient side of me found the wait between taking the shot and seeing your efforts a bit frustrating. Digital cameras brought me back to it. I bought one and started clicking like a crazy woman. I have always loved the colours, patterns and textures in nature and that is what I found myself shooting.

A love of photography

I ended up doing real estate photography so pretty much always have a camera with me. Somewhere along the line, Seahorse Silks came about when I thought I might like to do something with some of my photos of my favourite “colours, patterns and textures”. Printing on paper or canvas to frame and hang on a wall did not appeal. I wanted something more tactile. Something that could be enjoyed without having to be in a certain room looking at the wall. So, I decided to print on fabrics. That way my photo could be worn and enjoyed physically and visually.  I am a scarf wearer myself, so that was an easy decision.

Scarves

Scarves allow you to build on your wardrobe in a functional and economic way.   They allow you to achieve lots of different looks with a few simple pieces. The right scarf can turn a good outfit into a great outfit.   My silk scarves can take you from the beach to the office, then on to cocktails at sunset. The winter range of wool and cashmere are light but warm and not bulky at all. Many of them are unisex and look just as good on the gents.

They make great presents too as one size fits all. So, my scarves all come in a gift box ready for giving.   I know many of them are purchased just for that purpose.

Ladies tops and shirts

I also offer a few ladies tops and shirts. Some are in prints created from my photos and some are in plain fabrics. I make very few and some are one of. You will be extremely unlikely to run into someone in the same shirt!

Luxury fabrics... limited editions

I choose luxury, feel good fabrics to print on. I believe the whole tactile experience is important. You must love the colour and the feel.   My preferred fabrics are silk, Australian merino wool, cashmere and modal.  I do small print and manufacturing runs so you really are getting something genuinely unique.

I love travel

I enjoy my travels and have been fortunate enough to see some fabulous places with stunning scenery and so much history. However, it is always great to be home. Western Australia is blessed with some beautiful coastline and countryside so I do not really have to go far to find something well worth shooting. So, you will find the majority of the designs have been created from photos taken here in W.A.

Seahorse Silks are unique - a little bit of luxury for a very affordable price.

I am glad you have found your way to my online store. It is earning a reputation for both quality and top-notch customer service. I care that my customers are happy with their purchase and I am always available to answer any questions.

Seahorse Silks is for discerning buyers who are looking for something a little bit different.  Shop here and see for yourself.

I hope you'll be back often and spread the word to all your friends!
