5 BLUE ZONES

Blue is my favourite colour so when I saw an article about “Blue Zones” of course I had to read it.

Turned out to be about something I would never have imagined.  Apparently there are places in the world where people live longer and healthier lives and they are called Blue Zones!

Why?

They eat a healthy diet of mainly fruit, vegetables, fish & nuts, with a low intake of meat, fat & processed foods.

Their regular day incorporates built in exercise.  It is a common factor in each blue zone that the people work, walk & generally use their bodies throughout the day in their daily activities.

They all have low stress levels & are happy.  They have strong family ties, a sense of purpose & spirituality & get plenty of sleep.

And the winners are…..

It’s called lifestyle!

It sounds simple enough but these days it is not that easy to achieve.  We are bombarded from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to bed.  Modern technology has done a lot to make life easier but it has also made us “ON” 24/7.  We tend to drive ourselves to make more money to buy more “things”.  We have little genuine down time.  It takes its toll.   We really do need to look at life objectively and appreciate all the great things we do have.

Surround yourself with people who make you feel good.
Ditch the toxic – food, products & people.
Stop and smell the flowers.

Journalist Dan Buettner, in partnership with National Geographic, has thoroughly researched this and you can find lots more details and even some recipes on the website bluezones.com
